There are two main types of Working Groups: software development for analysis, and hardware design. The initial set of groups were set up after the experiment was approved, with the design groups forming around the main hardware areas. As the project organization evolved, the work-breakdown-structure (WBS) developed into groups similar to, but not exactly mapped to, the initial design working groups. Over the near term, the project managers of each WBS section will take on their roles of design and construction oversight, which may involve becoming co-conveners of the initial design groups, or may involve the creation of new design groups.
